Revised Offshore Regatta is on
Posted: Friday, 25th June 2021
Four days of offshore racing – Thursday July 8 to Sunday July 11, 2021
Sadly, the postponement of lifting Covid restrictions, from June 19 to July 19, forced the cancellation of EAORA’s eagerly-anticipated Offshore Regatta. However, several boats had already entered and asked the committee to come up with an alternative, Covid-compliant event.
After a hectic succession of Zoom meetings, the committee is delighted to announce that there will be an alternative regatta with four day races, starting and finishing in Harwich, allowing competitors to follow all Covid-related regulations.
The programme envisages 50-mile races on Thursday (July 8) and Friday (July 9), a 40-mile race on Saturday (July 10) and a 30-miler on Sunday (July 11). The series will allow one discard, so that boats needing to deliver home on the Sunday can do so without penalty.
The entry fee for the series is £100, or individual races may be entered at £35 each. Entries via the EAORA website as normal.
Entries must hold current IRC certificates, but in view of this year’s exceptional circumstances, the requirement for endorsed certificates has been suspended.
Full details, notice of race and sailing instructions will be published on the EAORA website as soon as possible. But please book the dates now and get those entries in.
The “alternative regatta” allows the chance for Fastnet-qualifying mileage, and more importantly, an opportunity to get out on the water, and enjoy great offshore racing – at last, after so many Covid-driven cancellations.
